For Dr. Saylor, medicine was his life for more than 50 years. He was a fellow in the American College of Surgeons; Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery; Chief of Staff, Board Member and Chairman of the Surgical Committee at Huron Regional Medical Center; member of the Priestly Society (Mayo Clinic); Regional Trauma Chairman of the American College of Surgeons; Founding Member of Dakota Care Insurance Company; Past President of the South Dakota State Medical Association as well as a member of numerous other medical boards.
Howard believed strongly in the community of Huron and served in many capacities: member of the Huron Masonic Lodge #26 AF and AM; York & Scottish Rite; Past Potentate Yelduz Shrine; James Valley Shrine Club & Motor Corps; Forrest McMullan VFW Post #1776; Huron Elks Lodge #44; William Reaves American Legion Post #7; Huron Sertoma Club; member of North Central Athletic Society; and Past President and member of the Huron Chamber and Visitors Bureau.
Dr. Saylor and his wife Mary Ann (Peterson) were married for nearly 50 years. They had three children, Diane (Dr. Roger) Wilson, Dr. Howard III (JoEllen), Dr. James (Denise), and seven grandchildren.
