Dr. Howard L. Saylor, Jr.. Huron Regional Medical Center Medical Staff. Dr. Saylor moved with his family to Huron from Cogswell, North Dakota. He attended Huron schools and later graduated from St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. Following his graduation, Dr. Saylor received his pre-med education at Huron College and the University of South Dakota. He continued on at the University of South Dakota Medical School and Northwestern University. His surgical residency was at the Mayo Clinic following his service in world war two as a Captain and Battalion Surgeon with the 34th Division, 135th Infantry Regiment. Dr. Saylor returned to Huron to begin his medical practice in 1950, retiring in 2000., For Dr. Saylor, medicine was his life for more than 50 years. He was a fellow in the American College of Surgeons; Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery; Chief of Staff, Board Member and Chairman of the Surgical Committee at Huron Regional Medical Center; member of the Priestly Society (Mayo Clinic); Regional Trauma Chairman of the American College of Surgeons; Founding Member of Dakota Care Insurance Company; Past President of the South Dakota State Medical Association as well as a member of numerous other medical boards., Howard believed strongly in the community of Huron and served in many capacities: member of the Huron Masonic Lodge #26 AF and AM; York and Scottish Rite; Past Potentate Yelduz Shrine; James Valley Shrine Club and Motor Corps; Forrest McMullan VFW Post #1776; Huron Elks Lodge #44; William Reaves American Legion Post #7; Huron Sertoma Club; member of North Central Athletic Society; and Past President and member of the Huron Chamber and Visitors Bureau., Dr. Saylor and his wife Mary Ann (Peterson) were married for nearly 50 years. They had three children, Diane (Dr. Roger) Wilson, Dr. Howard III (JoEllen), Dr. James (Denise), and seven grandchildren.
