Dr. Paul H. Hohm. Huron Regional Medical Center Medical Staff. Dr. Paul Hohm believed giving to others was what made life worthwhile. He dedicated his life to medicine for more than six decades and was South Dakota's senior practicing physician at the time of his passing. After graduating from Huron College, studying medicine at the University of Chicago, and serving in world war two, he returned home in 1946 and founded the Tschetter and Hohm Clinic with his brother and uncle. Dr. Paul went on to become a distinguished family practitioner and surgeon. He prescribed medicines, set broken bones, delivered babies, and performed surgery. He was much loved by his patients, to whom he was not just a doctor, but a friend. He served in many capacities for the medical profession including Past President of the State Medical Association, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the South Dakota Comprehensive Health Planning and Regional Medical Programs and was one of the original incorporators of South Dakota Blue Cross Blue Shield, eventually serving as the South Dakota President. Locally, he served on the original board of directors that purchased and operated Huron Regional Medical Center., As a philanthropist, he did much to bolster the health of the Huron community. He assisted with economic development in the community for any project he felt would make Huron better. He helped establish the Christen Hohm Lusk Community Foundation and designed, financed, and supervised the building of the Hohm Courts., He was honored by his medical peers with the Distinguished Service Award; honored by his alma mater with the Huron College Distinguished Alumni Award; honored by the City of Huron with the Distinguished Civic Service Award; honored by the State of South Dakota by being inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame; and loved and respected by his family., Dr. Paul and his wife Carol (Tisdel) were married for 67 years. They had three children, Marilyn Hoyt, Dr. Richard (Peggy) Hohm, Dr. Robert (Holly) Hohm, and seven grandchildren.
