Licking Memorial Hospital. . In the 1890s, women in Newark identified the need for a community hospital. Possessing neither property nor money made this vision difficult. Nine beds were donated along with food, supplies, and gifts of $.50 to $50. On December 20, 1898, the Newark Hospital Association, a non-profit organization, was born in a nine-room house on 3rd Street. In 1914, the Newark City Hospital relocated to Buena Vista and Everett Avenue. In 1966, 81 patients moved into the innovative and technologically advanced Licking Memorial Hospital. Licking County is very fortunate to have a local hospital with a rich and successful history of serving the community for over 100 years. . This historical marker is in Newark in Licking County Ohio
