Newark in Licking County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
The Licking County Recreational Trail System
Inscription.
Led by J. Gilbert Reese, The Thomas J. Evans
Foundation completed the first segment of trail in 1980
linking Newark to Granville. The second segment
linking Granville to Johnstown was completed by the
foundation in 1981. Since then numerous groups have
contributed to the creation of the more than 60 miles of
trails we have today. Local municipalities and park
districts are responsible for maintaining the existing
trails and developing new segments. The trails provide
opportunities for biking, walking, rollerblading, jogging
and observing nature.
