1926 granite sculpture “Handing Down Old Glory” by Frank J. Manson. Figures are approx. six feet tall. The granite base is twelve feet tall at its center.

Inscription.
(center plaque) In honor and memory of all Civil War Veterans and Arrowsmith’s Post, No. 61, Grand Army of the Republic, organized at Red Bank, New Jersey, 1881;
an association of Civil War Veterans.

Their names may be forgotten but their sacrifices and deeds on land and sea are
recorded in the annals of their grateful country.

This monument was erected through the efforts of
the Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department, May 30th, 1926:

1. Red Bank War Memorial
This monument depicts two men that were Red Bank veterans. Full-length figures of soldiers stand atop a tiered granite base. In the center, on the highest level of the base, is the likeness of Henry M. Nevius. He wears a Civil War uniform including a long coat

In honor of the men and women from Red Bank, NJ who served their country in World War II, and in Memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice.

and hat. In his hands, he holds an American flag which is draped over a flagpole.

On his right is a figure of an unknown Spanish-American War soldier. He is dressed in uniform and holds a rifle in his right hand. The butt of the gun rests on the ground. His left hand is held up toward the center figure, palm open to receive Old Glory.

The third figure stands on a pedestal at the left at the same height as the Spanish-American War figure. The third figure is the likeness of Major Peter P. Rafferty. He wears a World War I uniform and holds the barrel of a rifle in his left hand and is prepared to receive the flag with his right hand. —From the description in the Smithsonian Art Inventories Catalog Note To Editor only visible by Contributor and editor
