1. Missions NR-1 Marker
Inscription.
In her nearly forty years of service, NR-1 was involved in a number of important missions, many of which may remain classified for years to come. Those that have beed revealed include:

1976 Recovery Effort Phoenix Missile
October 1976 NR-1 searches for and finds a Navy F-14 Tomcat in 1,960 ft of water carrying the then new Phoenix missile. Using the manipulator arm, NR-1 attached a line to the plane which was then hoisted to the surface.

1999 EgyptAir 990 NR-1 Search & Recovery Efforts
An invstigation of the wreckage of EgyptAir Flight 990, 1999. The aircraft, on its way from Los Angeles to Egypt, crashed into the ocean just south of Nantucket on 31 October. NR-1 surveyed the crash site and took photographs of the wreckage. She also recovered pieces of the plane, including the cockpit voice recorder which was critical to the investigation of what had gone wrong.

Final Mission:
2008 Bonhomme Richard Captain John Paul Jones The last mission of the NR-1 was the search for the Bonhomme Richard which sank off the Yorkshire coast in 1779. This ship was commanded by the famous American captain John Paul Jones.
