Inscription. Dr. Mary E. Phelps, Robert Phelps' adopted daughter, graduated from Women's Medical School, Northwestern University in 1893. She was the first woman doctor in this area between 1912-1924. Mrs. Ethel Sargeant Spiegel purchased the house from Dr. Phelps's estate in 1924.
