History
The Nike-Hercules surface-to-air guided missile was the second generation air defense missile developed in the mid-1950's and initially deployed in 1958. It possessed a nuclear capability and was vastly superior to its predecessor, the Nike-Ajax. Capable of destroying high-flying, supersonic formations of enemy aircraft the Nike-Hercules was deployed throughout the continental United States and in overseas areas.
