Shriver's Salt Water Taffy and Fudge is the oldest business on the boardwalk in Ocean City, N.J. In 1898 William Shriver founded Shriver's as a restaurant, candy and ice cream store. In 1959 Shriver's was purchased by four brothers who owned a chain of ice cream, restaurant and confection stores throughout Philadelphia by the name of Dairy Maid. The brothers kept the name but with their knowledge of candy, age old recipes and experience, they perfected one of the most famous boardwalk treats of all time, salt water taffy. Today, over 115 years later, the business is still owned and operated, three generations later by the same family. With the rare combination of a working factory and retail store, Shriver's offers a unique and sweet experience like no other can in Ocean City.
