Inscription.
Ahlstrom Munksjo Today, only Ahlstrom Munksjo, who acquired Dexter in 2000, retains a manufacturing capability on the banks of the canal, along with Algonquin Power Windsor Locks LLC who operates a cycle cogeneration plant that produces electricity and steam. Dexter was the inventor of the technology to make porous teabag paper which was introduced back in the 1930s and is still produced at the plant today. Water from the canal continues to be used for papermaking and cooling purposes

Montgomery Mill The adaptive reuse of the historic and long-abandoned J.R. Montgomery Co. factory brings 160 new apartment homes and added vibrancy to downtown Windsor Locks. Much of the original building's design was preserved, brick, oversized windows, high ceilings and other interior elements that call you back to the previous life of the factory.

Listed on the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places, the canal has taken on more of a historical ecological and recreational significance. People enjoy its natural beauty in many ways. They stroll or bike along its banks, pausing to fish for shad, enjoy a picnic or catch a glimpse of nesting eaglets
