During the early 1960's, students from Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State University (today TSU) were actively involved in the nation's civil rights movement. TSU students were members of the Nashville student group that desegregated the city's lunch counters and movie theaters. Fourteen of those students were arrested during their participation in the Freedom Rides and later expelled from school. In 2008, the fourteen students were presented with [indecipherable] for their role [indecipherable] Freedom Rides.
