1. Simon Newman Building Marker
Inscription. In 1869 Simon Newman purchased a mercantile store in Hills Ferry from John Sharp. In 1888 he built a new store in Newman, to become the largest store between Stockton and Fresno selling dry goods, groceries, hardware and agricultural implements. The business closed in 1959 ending 89 years in business.
