1. Whitewood, Saskatchewan.
Where Whitewood now stands was once grasslands, travelled only by nomadic First Nations people, white traders, trappers and buffalo hunters. Native plants and wildlife thrived in perfect balance. The people who followed the trails between the Valley of the Qu'Appelle and the Pipestone Creek left no more permanent marks on the landscape than the tracks of their Red River carts. With the settlement of the west and the coming of the Trans-Continental railway, Whitewood quickly grew into a thriving community.

2. Town of Whitewood History.
By 1882, the Town of Whitewood was a major stop on the new CPR. The Town, named for the clumps of white poplar in the area grew steadily and was officially incorporated in 1892. Located at the mid-point of the CPR line between Brandon and Regina, Whitewood was a major stopping point for settlement in the region.

Settlers from many lands made their homes in this area and the multi-national character the of the community is visible in the community to this day. The first Finnish settlement in the west is located here and Hungarians, Swedes, Germans, Poles Russians and Czechs made Whitewood their destination. It was said that we needed to know 11 languages to do business in Whitewood.
