Inscription. In 1958 White helped co-fund the Nashville Christian Leadership Conference. After Rev. Kelly Miller Smith left he became the NCLC president. During his tenure, he guided the NCLC's efforts to push for black employment in city and state government as well as in local companies. He also led demands for wage equality throughout Nashville.
