1. Dr. Levi Watkins, Jr. Marker
Inscription. Dr. Watkins graduated from Tennessee State University in 1966. He majored in biology and was the student body president. He went on to integrate the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, becoming the first black to graduate from that institution. In 1980, he performed the first implantation of an automatic defibrillator into a human heart. Dr. Watkins is now the Associate Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a full Professor of Cardiac Surgery.
