1. Reverand James Lawson Marker
Inscription. In the late 1950's, James Lawson moved to Nashville at the urging of Martin Luther King, Jr. and enrolled at the Divinity School of Vanderbilt University. While there, he served as the southern director for the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and began conducting non-violence training workshops for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Nashville. Lawson trained many of the future leaders of the 1960's Civil Rights Movement, among them Diane Nash, James Bevel, Bernard LaFayette, Marion Barry and John Lewis.
