Inscription. Dr. LaFayette, an ordained minister, earned a B.A. from American Baptist Theological Seminary. Throughout his career he has been a Civil Rights Movement activist, minister, educator, lecturer and an authority on the strategy on nonviolent social change. He co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in 1960 and was a leader of the Nashville Movement and the Freedom Rides in 1961. Dr. LaFayette is also a former President of the American Baptist College.
