Inscription.
The citizens of the Borough of Surf City recognize Mr. John L. Gutbrod for his $500 contribution for the American flagpole for this Veterans' Memorial Park. Mr. Gutbrod was the first citizen to contribute to this memorial to honor our veterans. Mr. Gutbrod received a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and two (2) Purple Hearts during combat against German forces during World War II in the 507th Paratrooper Infantry Regiment.

Mr. Gutbrod and his loving wife, Mildred, moved to Surf City in 1980.

This marker expresses the profound appreciation of the citizens of the Borough of Surf City for Mr. Gutbrod's brave service to America and his enduring contributions to our community.
