Inscription.
The island is the tower that rises from an aircraft carrier's flight deck. Climb up these ladders to visit spaces where the commanding officer oversaw Intrepid's missions and crew members navigated Intrepid through the seas.

Chart House
Knowing Intrepid's position was essential for carrying out missions. Intrepid's quartermasters plotted the ship's course in the chart house.

Pilot House
Intrepid's main steering controls were located in the pilot house. Sailors turned the wheel to change the ship's direction and used other equipment to communicate with the engine rooms.

Flag Plot
When Intrepid was designated flagship, the admiral and his staff commanded a group of ships from the flag plot. Sailors located and plotted locations of nearby ships and aircraft.
