Inscription. In 1904, W.D. Malone and P.T. Bost built the original Rio Vista Dam, known then as Malone-Bost Dam. The dam redirected water from the San Marcos River through a mill race canal for irrigation and to power a grist mill.

Before purchasing land at the San Marcos River headwaters, A.B. Rogers took advantage of the reservoir created by the Rio Vista Dam and built San Marcos' first river resort named Rogers Resort. The resort was built where Rio Vista Park is today.
