The 75 mm Pack Howitzer was first adopted by the U.S. Army in 1927. It was known as a Pack Howitzer because it could be broken down into six components and transported by a team of mules. This enabled the howitzer to be employed in rugged terrain that was unaccessible by wheeled vehicles. The gun's mobility was greatly enhanced by placing it on the M8 carriage which allowed it to be airmobile by both parachute and glider. The 75 mm first saw action in the Philippines in 1942. The howitzer later saw service in the Italian Campaign and throughout the Western Front. The 75 mm Pack Howitzer continues to serve the Missouri National Guard in a ceremonial role. Its current designation is the M120 Pack Howitzer.
