Columbia City of Women, an initiative established by Historic Columbia and the Women's Rights and Empowerment Network (WREN), recognizes and addresses the significant gap in the representation of women in public spaces. Women deserve to be seen and heard throughout our city.
In 2019, we placed the names of twelve extraordinary women on a map of South Carolina's capital city. By adding new women to the map each year, we acknowledge the importance of moving through a city where women and their achievements are celebrated, the adversity they face is recognized, and their stories inspire and connect us.
Located at the physical and symbolic center of the state. The Architecture of Strength is the next step in representing and celebrating the contributions of women and recognizing their monumental impact in our community.
Join us in championing the untold stories of the women who have and will continue to shape this city. Share your story and learn of others at
