Duval County

In 1939, the citizens of Duval County purchased and donated the
land used to establish Naval Air Station Jacksonville in 1940.

Naval Station Mayport and Cecil Field Naval Air Station were
similarly commissioned in 1943.

Three military facilities made Duval County a focal point for
the war effort.

In addition to training, operations and logistics, over 80 Liberty
Ships used in the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns were
built in Duval County.

884 men and women from Duval County were killed defending
freedom during WW II.

Their names are inscribed on a granite wall at Memorial Park in
Duval County.
