A battery, designated by Gen. Ruggles as "Captain Trabue's Kentucky," was engaged here from about 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. April 6, 1862. No other reference to this battery can be found in the records.

This particular howitzer was among the first batch of the Model 1841 type produced by Ames Manufacturing (at the time headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts). The registry number 6 and the inspector initials of "W.M." indicate this piece was produced in 1841 and inspected by William Maynadier.
