Inscription. Donald Kimmel, along with his wife Gloria, was an integral part of Elmwood Park Zoo's path of success and prosperity. As the zoo's President of the Board of Directors, Mr. Kimmel coordinated a new master plan for the zoo, overseeing the opening of the zoo's North Entrance and several exhibits, including Olivia's Eagle Canyon and William's Prairie Dog Town. In 2000, Mr. Kimmel oversaw the construction of the Thomas Kimmel Conservation Playground, its subsequent renovations in 2017, and the construction of the Thomas Kimmel Percussion Playground in 2018. In addition to his years of service to the zoo, Mr. Kimmel volunteered on a multitude of boards for various non-profit and community-based organizations, including his support of the Boy Scouts of America and the creation of a student fund. This plaque stands in commemoration and gratitude for Mr. Kimmel and his lasting legacy for which the zoo is eternally grateful.
