1. American Alligator Marker
Inscription.
May grow as long as 15 feet.
Have 80 teeth, which will regenerate if lost.

Diet: Fish, turtles, birds, snakes, frogs, small mammals, smaller alligators.

Range: Atlantic coast of North America from North Carolina through Florida and Gulf Coast of Florida into Texas.

When alligators are ready to hatch from their eggs, they call to their mother, who digs them out of the nest mound and carries each hatchling to water.

Quick Fact - The temperature of the nest determines whether the alligators will hatch as males or females.

Conservation Corner
Alligators were listed as endangered in the 1960s from overhunting. State and federal protection and habitat preservation efforts have helped to save the American alligator from extinction.
