במקום זה עמד בזמנו בית גולדשמיד, אשר שכן ב"אזור הבטחון" ושימש מועדון לקצינים הבריטים בירושלים. ביום ט’ באדר תש"ז (1.3.1947) הסתערה יחידת לוחמים של האצ"ל חיסלה את התנגדות המשמרות ופוצצה את הבניי.
