1. Chioggia Beets Marker
Inscription. Also called candy stripe or bullseye beet, these striped wonders are as delicious as they are beautiful. Like other cultivated beets, Chioggia are descendants of the sea beet, which grows along the coast of the North Africa and the Mediterranean region. Sea beets are also the ancestors of chard and spinach, and are related to amaranth and quinoa. This particular variety is an 1840s Italian heirloom from the fishing village of Chioggia near Venice.
