Fredericksburg in Gillespie County, Texas — The American South (West South Central)
The Class of January 1943 United States Military Academy
Inscription.
Expresses profound gratitude for the skill and daring of the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Some of its feats in 1944 and 1945 had special meaning for us. Thanks for winning the decisive Battle for Leyte Gulf, preventing the cut off of classmates invading Leyte. Thanks for the hazardous close air support of ground forces actions we were fighting. Finally, thanks for rescuing classmates and crews whose B-29s were forced down off Iwo Jima and near Nagoya Bay.
Erected 1999 by National Museum of the Pacific War.
