Inscription. Flown over the Confederate headquarters at the Virginia house on the main street in Philippi. Headquarters flag was cut down and taken by First Lieutenant Charles A. Griffin of the First (West) Virginia Volunteers from Wheeling. Original flag (6 feet 5 inches by 15 feet) is in the State Museum at Charleston, West Virginia.
