1. Anne Marie Becraft Hall Marker
Inscription. Anne Marie Becraft (1805-1833) was a 19th-century free woman of color who founded one of the first schools for black girls in the Georgetown neighborhood. In 1831, she joined the Oblate Sisters of Providence, the first female religious order in the country for women of African descent, and took the name Sister Mary Aloysius.
