Grosse Pointe Shores in Macomb County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
North Cottage
Eleanor's chauffeur Arthur Fauser and his family (wife Mary and three children Arthur Jr. Alice, and John) moved into the cottage in late 1928 or early 1929. They lived there until Fauser's death in 1954.
Many staff members, like Fauser, worked for the Fords for decades. That loyalty was rewarded. For Fauser when he was battling cancer, the Fords paid his hospital bills. And upon his death, Eleanor continued to pay his salary to his widow. These and similar acts built a foundation of mutual respect and loyalty between the Fords and their staff.
Erected by Ford House.
