William Penn Annex East in Philadelphia in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
General Jacob Morgan, Esquire
To the memory of Genl
Jacob Morgan Esquire
who departed this life
September 18th 1802
in the 61st year of his age.
By service trained to every martial deed,
In that dread context which our country freed,
Morgan stood forth the champion of the plan
That man alone should legislate for man.
When would-be tyrants lorded o'er the soil,
And half-fledg'd Traitors mock'd our former toil,
Morgan again appeared, by freedom fired,
To fix by firmness what our Arms acquired:
Firm in the council, ardent in the field;
Too bold to temporize, too brave to yield;
By all who knew him loved, by all revered;
By all lamented, as to all endeared;
Peace to his shade; let no unhallowed tread
Disturb the sacred slumbers of the dead.
