Village of Lima Civil War Memorial. .
In memory of Civil War Veterans Village of Lima, 1864 Village of Lima Civil War Memorial. This Lima Cannon was one of two celebration cannons for Lima and Ontario, produced in 1861 by Lima Foundry, 507 3rd Street. The villages fired competing blasts on patriotic holidays: competition was fierce. The cannons would mysteriously disappear to be found later in a silo or the Pigeon River. The fun ended when Ontario overloaded their cannon exploding it. The lone Lima Cannon was then dedicated "In Memory of Civil War Veterans, Village of Lima, 1864” and was located on the campus at Howe Military Academy for many years. The cannon's relocation in 2020 was made possible by many generous donors.
