1. 804 East Lake: Town Treat Café Marker

George N. Boosalis founded the Town Treat Café in 1940. Boosalis emigrated from Greece in 1914 at age 16, eventually landing in Minneapolis to join the growing number of Greeks working in the restaurant business. He started at his uncle's downtown Minneapolis business, the Minneapolis Fruit Store, before opening his own café at Chicago Avenue and Lake Street. The Town Treat sat about 100 people and was known for its homemade food, prepared on the premises with the freshest ingredients. Along with his wife Anthula, their three daughters, and loyal staff, the Town Treat served its customers lunch and dinner six days a week until 1967. Boosalis was active in many civic efforts, including the Chicago-Lake Business Association, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPHA), and St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church.
