1. Lake Surprise Bathhouse Marker

Inscription. In the early years of the Watchung Reservation, park visitors could swim at a beach along the lake shore behind you, and could change into swim suits at a bathhouse at this location. Aquatic carnivals at the lake drew hundreds of participants for swimming and boating events. Lifeguards kept watch from a tower in the middle of the lake.

The marker is at the Watchung Reservation along the "History" trail which is the pink blaze. The marker is on the south side of Lake Surprise, along this trail.
