1. Lake Surprise Bathhouse Marker

Inscription. In the early years of the Watchung Reservation, park visitors could swim at a beach along the lake shore behind you, and could change into swim suits at a bathhouse at this location. Aquatic carnivals at the lake drew hundreds of participants for swimming and boating events. Lifeguards kept watch from a tower in the middle of the lake.
