Regarding Father Martin A. Roche. From a 1957 newspaper clipping held in the University of Scranton (PA) Library and Special Collections:
Father Roche, pastor of Holy Child Church and St. Mary's Mission, Mansfield, was ordained to the priesthood in 1937 and has served a number of churches in Luzerne County and in this city, including Holy Rosary, North Scranton, and St. John's, South Side. He became an Army chaplain in 1944, won two battle stars in Europe, and was discharged in 1946. A year later he joined the 109th and stayed with the unit until becoming division chaplain.
