1. Elisha Walden and the longhunters Marker
Inscription. People called long hunters, because they entered the wilderness to hunt, trap, and trade for months or years, began to pave the way for permanent settlements. Elisha Walden, for whom Walden's Ridge is named, set out in 1761 from Virginia with a group of long hunters to explore East Tennessee and the Cumberland Valley.
