1. Disston Rice Mill Marker
Inscription. In addition to sugar cane production, Hamilton Disston also planted rice in 1892. Near this location is the brick foundation of the Hamilton Disston Rice Mill. When that failed, brothers named Kelly were more successful. Operating on fields between Fish Lake and Lake Tohopekaliga (Goblet's Cove), they also built another mill on Kissimmee's lakefront near the end of Dakin Avenue. It was called the Florida Rice Manufacturing Company and was torn down in 1901, by the Henry Plant System.
