Auntie Kay and Uncle Frank Chin Park on the Greenway
By Devry Becker Jones (CC0), January 28, 2023
Welcome to Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park on The Greenway, designated in 2019 to honor their lifelong commitment to Boston's Chinatown.
Uncle Frank worked tirelessly in improving the quality of life for Chinatown residents. He had a passion for politics and public service which resulted in many community projects for low income housing, public safety, social services, education, and youth engagement. His wife, Auntie Kay, ran the Cathay Corner that was both a gift shop and a popular neighborhood gathering spot. Their love for each other and the Chinatown community are immeasurable.
An urban oasis at the southern end of The Greenway, this one-acre linear park contains design elements drawn from Asian traditions and artwork. Chin Park hosts an open plaza for community events and festivals, a serpentine walkway edged by bamboo within bright red sculptural elements, and a unique fountain that includes a waterfall and a shallow riverbed.
Please remember Uncle Frank and Auntie Kay as you enjoy the park.
