Inscription.  

La Catedral Basílica Santa Catalina de Alejandría
Llamada también "Basílica Menor" data de 1612 fecha en la cual reemplazó a la primitiva de palma y bahareque, arrasada por un incendio en 1552. Está constituida por tres naves separadas por columnas dóricas y arcos de medio punto. Presenta una cubierta a dos aguas con teja de barro. Tanto el ábside, como la fachada lateral que da a la Plaza de la Proclamación y su portada principal (estilo herreriano) están construidas totalmente en piedra sillar a la vista.

Also called "Minor Basilica" it was built in 1612 and replaced the primitive one made of adobe and palm that was destroyed by fire in 1552. It is composed of three naves separated by Doric columns and semicircular arches. It has a gable roof with clay tile. Both the apse and the sidewall facing the Plaza de la Proclamation and main entrance (Herrera style) are fully built in ashlar stone in sight.
