Inscription.
Awarded the John F. Newnam Service Award, The Rotary Club of Wilmington's highest honor, in July, 2019, Jon Whitcomb embodied the Rotary motto "Service Above Self." His fellow Rotarians have dedicated this music circle in Jon's memory with the hope that it will be enjoyed by many of the people Jon loved to help during his life.

To commemorate the Club's Centennial in 2015, members and local supporters raised funds and secured a Rotary International Global Grant to make improvements to this park. The Club's goal was to add interactive learning experiences for area schoolchildren and make the park more enjoyable for the people who live and work nearby.

Members of this Rotary Club, throughout its long history, have dedicated themselves through service to improve the lives of Wilmington's residents. They do so with post-secondary education scholarships, direct assistance through volunteerism, and donations to assist community charities and local elementary schools—all in support of children, families, and those in need of help to strengthen their prospects for a better life.

Free of any age, ethnicity, gender, religious or political affiliation, the only requirement to be a Rotarian is a desire to provide "Service Above Self" and to conduct one's personal and professional life in accordance with this
