Inscription.
The roses in this bed are named "Jasper Crane" in memory of the man who donated the original plants for this garden in 1932.

Cross-polinating the flowers of two different varieties of roses creates a hybrid. Seedlings of the cross are grown to blooming size in field trials and evaluated. One new award-winning rose may be the result of hundreds or thousands of such crosses. This new rose, "Jasper Crane," is a Hybrid Tea whose parentage includes the AARS winner "Mister Lincoln." Bred by J. Benjamin Williams, an accomplished rosarian who was acquainted with Mr. Crane, this rose was acquired by the Friends of Wilmington Parks in 2001 to commemorate the restoration of the garden.
