1. Hastings Railroad Marker
Inscription. The town of Hastings was named after Thomas Horace Hastings, a cousin of Henry Flagler. Hastings and other settlers moved to the area for the agricultural potential of this region, and the proximity to the St. Johns River and Deep Creek. In the 1800s, Flagler purchased portions of existing railways which he upgraded thereby building a new railway, which he then incorporated into the Florida East Coast Railway. The railway allowed fresh produce from Hastings to be delivered to Flagler’s Ponce de Leon and Alcazar Hotels in St. Augustine.

Erected by St. Johns County.
