Clawson in Oakland County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
East 14 Mile the Clawson Road
Downtown Clawson History Walk
The photo at left shows East 14 Mile, or Clawson Road, as it was then known, about 1922. Electrical lines had been strung, including street lights, and wooden sidewalks are visible on the right of the street.
The building in the left foreground is the Lincoln Theatre, Clawson's first movie house, during its construction. The theatre burned in the early 1930s. The next tall brick building is the oldest building still standing downtown. The white frame building across the street is Lawson Lumber. In the distance is The Niles Road, now Main Street.
George Robinson's general store, shown above, stood near this spot in the 1920's and provided a large range of goods for Clawson residents. This store was much needed after the closure of another smaller general store that had stood at the 14 Mile & Main intersection.
At left Mr. Robinson and a customer in the interior of the store in 1920.
