Regarding Liberation Day Monument. This monument was originally constructed at the site of the killing of three soldiers on February 28, 1948. The three were Allied veterans of the Gold Coast Regiment of the Royal West African Frontier force in World War II and were on their way to present a protest document about the lack of pensions from their war time duties. They were shot by British colonial forces at this location. The shootings led to riots throughout the Gold Coast, now Ghana. These protests are often cited as the beginning of the independence movement of Ghana. The original monument appears to have included three stands with busts of the three soldiers. The stands are still present as of February 2023 but the busts have been removed.

the February 24, 1966 coup d’etat that overthrew the Nkrumah presidency.
