Here rests the remains of
Colonel
John Lind Smith
U.S. Corps of Engineers
who died 13th December 1858
aged seventy years and was here
interred with military honors.
He was greatly respected by his
brother officers.

Born in Charleston S.C. the son of
John & Agnes Lind Smith
of Dundee Scotland
A dutiful son • A steadfast friend
A faithful officer and a benevolent man
to the poor.

In the Mexican War he achieved two brevets.
He was Constructing Engineer of Forts Schuyler
and Columbus in New York Harbor and of other
fortifications in the United States.

Elizabeth Watson Gray of Dundee N.B. and
sanctioned by the decree of the Surrogate of
the City of New York
1861
