Inscription. This house, more properly known as the Stuart-Utz-Teson House, is a two-story dog-trot house that began life in 1782 as a one room log cabin. It was purchased by Auguste Chouteau in 1804. Expanded in the early 1820's, it was owned by Alexander Stuart (grandfather of Gen. J.E.B. Stuart) until 1832 when it was purchased by Julius Utz. Maj. James Utz, who grew up in the house, was hanged as a Confederate spy in 1864. Five generations of the Utz family lived in the home until it was sold in 1902 to Gregorie Teson. It was occupied by members of the Teson family until the early 1990's. The house was moved from its original location, 615 Utz Lane, to its present location in Sept. 2003.
