Regarding Virginia Apartments. Excerpt from the National Register of Historic Places nomination for the Wallace Woods Area Residential Historic District, which includes the apartment building:
The 100 block of Wallace Avenue also has a tall early apartment building — the Hornaday or “Virginia Flats” — but the remainder of the block consists of large dwellings on ample lots, making it one of the most impressive residential blocks of the city. The 1906 Virginia Flats … on the northeast corner of Wallace and Scott (now as well as originally perhaps the major access street to Wallace Woods from the north), has a series of inset and protruding porches and bays reflecting the angle of the intersection with round-arched entrance pavilions and somewhat heavy Neo-Classical trim.
… John P. Hornaday of the Virginia Flats (100 Wallace) was one of several brokers [who lived in the neighborhood].
