J. R. Minor is a prominent attorney of Augusta. He is a native of Bracken County, was born on a farm about three miles from Augusta, August the 6th, 1840, of "Old Virginia" stock … He was educated at the Augusta College, and taught school several years before entering upon the practice of his profession in 1871. … He has filled many important offices in the city and county, and is now the nominee of the Democratic Party for the office of County Judge.
Minor also was Augusta's mayor in 1878, according to a 1938 retrospective article in The Bracken Chronicle.
